Profile S320 Stretcher Frame

Profile S320 Stretcher Frame

I am happy to announce the addition of some new stretcher frames. Some of our customers have expressed an interest in stretcher bars that have more riser. The riser is the part of the stretcher bar that lifts the canvas off the face of the bar. We also had requests for a deeper stretcher frame and so we added profile S310 which is a full 3 inches deep. We also added our S320 canvas frame which is a brand new type of stretcher frame. It has a 1/8 inch rabbet on the back to allow gluing or nailing a foamcore to professionally close off the back of your gallery wrap. Once the foamcore is attached to the back of the frame you can attach a certificate of authenticity or artist statement.

All of our stretcher frames are composed of solid wood strainer stock. We professionally cut the wood to size and then hand glue and nail the stretcher bars into a complete frame for your canvas. Our frames come with perfect 90 degree corners that will not collapse when you stretch your canvas on them. In addition to saving you time, you may be saving money since our complete frames are less than some stretcher bars.

It can really be difficult to tell form internet web pictures if a particular picture frame moulding is right for your application. Even with color calibration, it is difficult to know how black a black frame is, or how a Cherry wood will look under your lightening conditions. If you house is like mine, it is not exactly the same light temperature as a typical studio strobe. To make it easier to get sample’s of the metal and wood moulding offered by Frame Destination, we have created a series of straight and corner sample pieces. The straight pieces are 6 inches long and an inexpensive way to hold and observe the actual moulding’s color and texture and shape. We also offer corner samples which are little more expensive since they involve considerably more labor on our part to create but can be invaluable when helping you or a prospective customer that may be purchasing frame photographs from you. You can see all of the samples here: Frame Corners Samples

Metal and Wood Picture Frame Assembly Videos

Posted in Frames, Picture Framing on November 16th, 2009 by Mark Rogers – Be the first to comment

Frame Destination has recently started using YouTube to add videos to our website. We get a lot of questions from our new customers about the assembly of our metal and wood picture frames. Although a picture is worth 1000 words, a video can be worth even more! We have created two videos that show the complete process from receiving one of our metal or wood picture frames to mounting your image, to final assembly, and installation of the hanging kit. The picture frames used in the videos are complete picture frame kits with metal or wood moulding, foamcore backing board, 4-ply mat board and acrylic glazing. The frame assembly videos have been added to our website in the section for frame assembly instructions. You can check them out here: Wood Picture Frame Assembly Instructions and Metal Picture Frame Assembly Instructions.

FDI ready-made frames in 8×10 and 16×20

Posted in Frame Sizes, Frames, Picture Framing on October 2nd, 2009 by Mark Rogers – Be the first to comment

Ready-Made Picture Frame

Ready-Made Picture Frame

Frame Destination has recently added a couple of new standard frame sizes to our selection of FDI ready-made picture frames. The FDI picture frames were originally created to offer an inexpensive framing option for inkjet prints in non-standard sizes such as 8×12, 11×17, 12×18, 13×19, 17×22, and 17×25. Many people are using them for framing all kinds of other artwork so now we have rounded out the line with standard sizes 8×10, 8.5×11, 11×14, and 16×20.
These are black metal frames (our profile 2) with a smooth white 1/8 foamcore backing, and glass.

Of course if you need a different size you can just go to the frame kit section of our website. Just select “Frames” – “Complete Kit” from the top menu bar. Select “no mat”. That will bring you to our metal frame kit page for complete frames without a mat which include free hanging kits. You can select one of over 60 different sizes or select custom and create your own size. Then just select
Moulding Style: “Profile 2”
Mount Board type: “Foamboard Regular 1/8 inch”
Glass or Acrylic: “Glass”

Of course you can select other options if you want acid free or a mat. Profile 2 is not very tall so if you do want a mat then you will want to select “Profile 117” which looks the same from the front but has a deeper rabbet.

Mark

Celebrating 5 Years in Business

Posted in Frames, stretcher bar on April 16th, 2009 by Mark Rogers – 3 Comments

Frame Destination is happy to announce that April 2009 is our 5 year anniversary. 5 years ago I was an electrical engineer starting to go pro with my photography. I started doing some work for hire and purchased an Epson 2200 printer. I was thrilled to be able to do my own archival printing and not have to crop my photo’s to standard photo lab and frame sizes. I really like 13×19 and 12×18 picture sizes but discovered a serious problem with a lack of picture frames in those sizes. I decided to form Frame Destination to help solve this issue. Since then we added all kinds of other framing products such as clearbags, photo and dvd storage products, and most recently our new stretcher bar frames.

Less than a year after forming Frame Destination I quite my job, started hiring employees and moved it into its own warehouse production space. Since then we have expanded into additional space, and later moved again. This year we are expanding again and will have over 11,000 sq ft.

I really appreciate the great support from all of our customers over the years. All of our customer service employees have always commented on how they enjoy working with our customers.

Cheers,
Mark

New Black Wood Picture Frames

Posted in Frames on January 14th, 2009 by Mark Rogers – Be the first to comment

wood picture frameFrame Destination has recently added 6 new black wood picture frame profiles. They all have a smooth matte black finish ideal for gallery style framing. They vary from 3/4 to 2 inches wide. Our new wood frame 876 has 7/8 inch rabbet to allow plenty of room for double triple mats and spacers. It is just a little wider than our popular 3/4 inch wide profile such as 872 so it is better suited for larger frames. Our new wood profile 880 is even larger. It is over 1 and 1/2 inches wide and has a full 1 inch rabbet making it ideal for even larger framing jobs. If you don’t need a lot of depth, but you want more frontal presence to your frame our wood frame 875 has a full 2 inch wide face. We also carry the mats, mountboards, and glass or acrylic, and we can do custom wood frames.

Cheers,
Mark

Custom Wood Frames and Points

Posted in Frames on November 15th, 2008 by Mark Rogers – 1 Comment

Frame Destination sells custom wood picture frames. On our website you can select the type of wood moulding, matboard, mount board, and glass or acrylic. One of the less obvious choices for our wood frames is the points. We use flexible metal taps called points that we fire into inside edge of the wood frame to hold all the contents in place. See the picture. If you are ordering everything from us you can use an easy selection for points which is “fit contents ordered”. We will place the mat, backing, and glass into your frame and the fire the points in directly behind the mount board. If you are going to use your own glass, mat or backing board then you will need to determine how thick everything will be and then select the proper depth for the points. For example, say your picture is already dry mounted on 3/16 inch foamcore and you buying wood, mat, and glass from us as a complete wood picture frame kit. Your foamcore is 3/16, our glass is 2mm which can rounded to 1/8 and 4-ply mat board is 1/16. Once you add all that up you end up with a total of 3/8 inches and so you select that option for the point’s depth.

Mark

Easier Complete Custom Picture Frame Kits

Posted in Frames on October 28th, 2008 by Mark Rogers – Be the first to comment

Frame Destination upgraded the frame kit page on our website to support custom sizes and double and triple mats. Now you only have to enter the custom size once and then you can select the moulding, mat board, backing and glass or acrylic. We have two different frame kit pages: wood frame and metal frame kits. When you first enter the page you can tell it if you want no mat, single mat, double mat or triple mat. If you don’t want any mat then you just select CUSTOM in the size pull-down and enter the size frame you require. If you want mat board you can enter the size of the opening in the mat board and then select the size of the mat boards around the opening. The webpage will calculate the frame size and automatically put in the appropriate custom size components to match the mat board dimensions you entered.

New Wider Stained Wood Picture Frame Moulding

Posted in Frames on January 11th, 2008 by Mark Rogers – Be the first to comment

Many of our customers have requested a wider stained wood picture frame profile. As a result we have added our widest wood profile yet. Our new “big as Texas” Profile 506 is a substantial 1 ¾” inches wide and available in seven colors. Manufactured from high quality real wood, the profile is similar in appearance to our profiles 500 and 501. It’s from a different manufacturer however, so the colors will not be identical to the 500 and 501. The profile 506 is glued, nailed and hand-finished in the same quality manner as our other wood frames.

We also sell complete wood picture frame kits that include mat board, glass or acrylic and foamcore backing. We have 80 different standard sizes and we can do full custom sizes.

Cheers,
Mark
