We have recently added some new colors to our metal picture frames. These colors are primarily at the request of our customers. We added German Silver as a warm alternative to Frosted Silver. Contrast Grey is a different kind of dark moulding that many photographers prefer and we added Antique Gold.

The German Silver, and especially the Contrast Grey can take on different looks depending on the color of the light and angle so we strongly recommend that you purchase straight or corner samples of the moulding before buying frames. It is very difficult to get an accurate idea of how your print will look next to these frames in your display environment by looking at web-based pictures that have reduced color gamut.

German Silver is available in Nielsen metal frame profiles: 12, 15, 97 and 117
Contrast Grey is available in Nielsen metal frames: 12, 15, and 117
Antique Gold is available in Nielsen frames: 15 and 117
Metal frame profile 99 has a special textured version of German Silver called Brushed German Silver.

For many years Frame Destination only carried Gallery Style frames. Gallery Style frames are simple black frames with white mats commonly used photography exhibits. Over the years we have expanding our selection of frames and mat board colors. We have also added floater frames. Floater frames are ideal for really setting off your canvas gallery wraps. You can also check out examples of a canvas gallery wraps in our product gallery: Frame Product Gallery.

Some of our customers have expressed an interest in stretcher bars that have more riser. The riser is the part of the stretcher bar that lifts the canvas off the face of the bar. We also had requests for a deeper stretcher frame and so we added profile S310 which is a full 3 inches deep. We also added our S320 canvas frame which is a brand new type of stretcher frame. It has a 1/8 inch rabbet on the back to allow gluing or nailing a foamcore to professionally close off the back of your gallery wrap. Once the foamcore is attached to the back of the frame you can attach a certificate of authenticity or artist statement.

All of our stretcher frames are composed of solid wood strainer stock. We professionally cut the wood to size and then hand glue and nail the stretcher bars into a complete frame for your canvas. Our frames come with perfect 90 degree corners that will not collapse when you stretch your canvas on them. In addition to saving you time, you may be saving money since our complete frames are less than some stretcher bars.

You can check out our complete line here: Stretcher Bar Frames

Even with color calibration, it is difficult to know how black a black frame is, or how a Cherry wood will look under your lightening conditions. If you house is like mine, it is not exactly the same light temperature as a typical studio strobe. To make it easier to get sample’s of the metal and wood moulding offered by Frame Destination, we have created a series of straight and corner sample pieces. The straight pieces are 6 inches long and an inexpensive way to hold and observe the actual moulding’s color and texture and shape. We also offer corner samples which are little more expensive since they involve considerably more labor on our part to create but can be invaluable when helping you or a prospective customer that may be purchasing frame photographs from you. You can see all of the samples here: Frame Corners Samples

Frame Destination has recently started using YouTube to add videos to our website. We get a lot of questions from our new customers about the assembly of our metal and wood picture frames. Although a picture is worth 1000 words, a video can be worth even more! We have created two videos that show the complete process from receiving one of our metal or wood picture frames to mounting your image, to final assembly, and installation of the hanging kit. The picture frames used in the videos are complete picture frame kits with metal or wood moulding, foamcore backing board, 4-ply mat board and acrylic glazing. The frame assembly videos have been added to our website in the section for frame assembly instructions. You can check them out here: Wood Picture Frame Assembly Instructions and Metal Picture Frame Assembly Instructions.

The FDI picture frames were originally created to offer an inexpensive framing option for inkjet prints in non-standard sizes such as 8×12, 11×17, 12×18, 13×19, 17×22, and 17×25. Many people are using them for framing all kinds of other artwork so now we have rounded out the line with standard sizes 8×10, 8.5×11, 11×14, and 16×20.
These are black metal frames (our profile 2) with a smooth white 1/8 foamcore backing, and glass.

Of course if you need a different size you can just go to the frame kit section of our website. Just select “Frames” – “Complete Kit” from the top menu bar. Select “no mat”. That will bring you to our metal frame kit page for complete frames without a mat which include free hanging kits. You can select one of over 60 different sizes or select custom and create your own size. Then just select
Moulding Style: “Profile 2”
Mount Board type: “Foamboard Regular 1/8 inch”
Glass or Acrylic: “Glass”

Of course you can select other options if you want acid free or a mat. Profile 2 is not very tall so if you do want a mat then you will want to select “Profile 117” which looks the same from the front but has a deeper rabbet.

Cheers,
Mark

Frame Destination is happy to announce that April 2009 is our 5 year anniversary. 5 years ago I was an electrical engineer starting to go pro with my photography. I started doing some work for hire and purchased an Epson 2200 printer. I was thrilled to be able to do my own archival printing and not have to crop my photo’s to standard photo lab and frame sizes. I really like 13×19 and 12×18 picture sizes but discovered a serious problem with a lack of picture frames in those sizes. I decided to form Frame Destination to help solve this issue. Since then we added all kinds of other framing products such as clearbags, photo and dvd storage products, and most recently our new stretcher bar frames.

Less than a year after forming Frame Destination I quite my job, started hiring employees and moved it into its own warehouse production space. Since then we have expanded into additional space, and later moved again. This year we are expanding again and will have over 11,000 sq ft.

I really appreciate the great support from all of our customers over the years. All of our customer service employees have always commented on how they enjoy working with our customers.

Cheers,
